I'm a designer, editor, writer, and creator. Here, find out what I'm all about.
KSA Event Promotion Design
Each of these is a unique design using relevant assets. These event banners were posted on Facebook and sent via the KSA mailer, with later designs also have an accompanying Instagram version. The designs were created in Adobe Photoshop, with some elements in Adobe Illustrator. The top elements are the oldest works I created for KSA, while the lower elements are newer works. This was my first design as the Social Media & Graphic Design chair for KSA. This was also an exercise in illustrating in Photoshop.Following the format of previous MSG (Monthly Seoul Garden) event banners, I found backgrounds and a relevant food image. This was the event banner for our Korean Barbecue event, which was our biggest event of Spring 2019. I selected a font that had a somewhat “meaty” look to it, as well as used colors that resembled meat in order to thematically match the event.Ramen Night 2019 Event BannerThe flyer that was printed for promotion of our Ramen Night event (2019).
KSA’s fall recruitment event is traditionally our Ramen Night. The first is my design for the event banner and the right is printed flyer that we used to promote the event. This is the event we use to introduce the club to interested SLU community members. (Facebook event)
This collaboration event with SLU’s Asian American Association required requesting and receiving feedback from both executive boards. I played with layering photos and editing text to give the appearance of a kimbap roll.Following our previous MSG events, I created a new format for the Facebook event banner. For the 2019-2020 year, I changed the color of the background and the food picture each month. Though much of the theming is similar to the previous year’s design for MSGs, I rearranged elements while still effectively communicating the event details. For this event, I used vibrant colors and dynamic fonts to create the sense of excitement that comes with singing karaoke. I also incorporated motion lines using the paintbrush tool.As a fundraiser, we sold boxes of Pepero candy. To promote this, I created a flyer explaining what Pepero Day is and how to support our organization. I experimented with a variety of colors for the stroke, but ultimately settled on pink, as it complemented the purple and brown of the rest of the design.Another collaboration event with SLU’s Asian American Association, I used free assets from online as the borders and a photograph taken at the previous year’s Brewery Lights event as the background. A soft outer glow was applied to all of the elements to embody the spirit of the event. For this design, I aimed for a fresh, spring-like look. With that in mind, I chose to use floral elements and chose a bright, refreshing mint as the background color. To add some fun, I used a photo of one of members who attended the previous K-Beauty Night in 2019.Given the split nature of the event, I used one half of the space to represent the “game night” side and the other half to represent the “election night” side. This led to a split pink-blue background and differing assets on each side. I also used different fonts on certain words to illustrate the different activities. The Facebook event banner for the event. The printed flyer for the event. These are the event banner and printed flyer our prospective Taste of Korea event, in which we would have food and activities to promote Korean culture on campus. To emphasize the cultural aspect, I incorporated cultural symbols such as the flower and stamp. The painting in the background is also a traditional painting. However, due to the spread of COVID-19, this event had to be cancelled. (Facebook event)As Graphic Design & Social Media chair, it was generally my responsibility to design the apparel for the year. For the 2020-2021 year, I created the above design. This was printed on the left breast of a black hoodie. I incorporated both traditional and modern elements of Korean culture and identity, with the mountains in the top and the city of Seoul in the bottom. The hangul text reads as the Korean version of the English on top.The Facebook banner for Kpop Night. The Instagram post for Kpop Night.KSA hosted a virtual Kpop Night event in the fall of 2020. This was one of our first events after the start of COVID and many newer students used Instagram over Facebook, so we started to create promotions for both platforms. I used bright colors and a font with very rounded-edges to illustrate the fun nature of the event. (Facebook event) (Instagram post)In order to promote our collaborative Among Us Night event with SLU’s Asian American Association, I created an animated gif in a videogame style. Facebook did not support the gif format as an event banner, so a still version is available on there. To promote our virtual K-Beauty Night for 2021, I used online assets and a handwriting style for the main font. As this was intended to be refreshing, relaxing event, I used a more cool-toned color palette. For this event, I tried to portray the concept of “crafting” with the fonts and images. To better match the main paper art, I toned the colored papers in the center. The back of the quarter-zip.The front of the quarter-zip.For KSA’s 2021-2022 apparel, we decided to make a red quarter-zip. I went for simple tiger design, meant to look like ripples in water. I also incorporated the national flower of South Korea and the shapes of the yang and um from their flag. With this annual event, I drew the kimbap pieces and then arranged them to make the piece more dynamic. I kept the color palette of the remainder of the design simple, sticking to variations of the colors on the South Korean flag. Created in Adobe Illustrator. The Facebook event banner for our November 2021 MSG.The Instagram version of our November 2021 MSG post.Keeping in mind the styles of the previous years’ MSG banner designs, I opted for a cleaner look, with one or two recurring colors in the design. We promoted this on both Facebook and Instagram, which I adjusted the design for accordingly. (Facebook event) (Instagram post)Facebook version of our November GBM banner.Instagram version of our November GBM banner.During November 2021, we had a general body meeting (GBM) that I illustrated assets for in Illustrator and fully designed in Photoshop. I converted the assets into both a Facebook and Instagram version. (Facebook event) (Instagram post)Our recruitment event for spring 2022 was our Ramen Night, once again. For this event, I did all of the illustration and arranged all of the assets for both versions of the promotional materials, one of which was for our Instagram and the other of which was for the mailer. As this is one of our larger events, this went through several revisions per the executive board’s wishes. (Instagram post)As my final design for KSA, I created the banner for our spring 2022 Karaoke Night. I adjust the text and other visual elements to fit the theme of the background picture of a karaoke room. I also added text effects such as a glow to create a feeling of “nightlife” within the design.
